Communication

Throughout my global coursework I consistently engaged in group projects which helped me develop effective communication skills. When completing group projects it is easy to take a step back and let someone else step up. However, in order to be proud of my final product I realized it was critical to take initiative by engaging in concise but frequent communication in order to work effectively as a team. I strengthened my communication skills by initiating check-ins, engaging in Zoom meetings, and updating my teams on my progress, so we could work together to create a meaningful final product.

Organization

I developed strong organizational skills throughout my academic journey in order to stay on track with my assignments, projects, and research. In particular, I developed strong organizational skills while working with the Carlos Maria Ulloa nursing home in Costa Rica to help them digitize and organize their medical records. This required me to sort through countless medical records to upload them and identify certain diagnoses. Therefore, in order to stay organized I used Google Sheets to track my progress and ensure I did not miss key information. Staying organized with Google Sheets allowed me to work effectively and productively.

Detail-Oriented

I learned how to pay special attention to detail while serving as the Membership and Matching Director for UF Navigators International. As the Membership and Matching Director it was my responsibility to match incoming international exchange students with American UF students. The purpose of the mentorship program was to help international students adjust to life at UF and to introduce UF students to other cultures. Therefore, in order to ensure mentors and mentees were best suited for each other I spent significant time reading through their applications and noting the nuances in their responses. Although this process was time consuming, it was important to me that mentors and mentees were able to get the most out of the program.
